Deion Sanders reportedly interested in Las Vegas Raiders opening

Colorado football coach Deion Sanders reportedly has strong interest in the Las Vegas Raiders opening, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Saturday.

The report said ‘NFL-connected associates of Sanders’ have reached out to the Raiders to express Sanders’ interest in the job.

Deion Sanders told ’60 Minutes’ in 2022 that he wouldn’t ever have interest in the NFL, no matter what his success was at the college level. However, he walked back that statement recently in an interview with ‘Good Morning America,’ saying that ‘the only way I would consider (the NFL) is to coach my sons.’

Deion Sanders, in his second season with the Buffaloes, led the program to a 9-4 record with an Alamo Bowl appearance against BYU. He also mentored Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who are both expected to be among the top picks of the 2025 NFL draft.

Deion Sanders went 4-8 in his first season at the helm in Colorado after inheriting a program that won nine games across three seasons under Karl Dorrell before Sanders’ arrival. The Pro Football Hall of Famer has won at every stop of his career, also finishing with a 27-6 record at FCS Jackson State in three seasons.

Las Vegas locked up the No. 6 pick of the 2025 NFL draft after finishing 4-13 this season and could have a shot at taking Shedeur Sanders, who is likely competing with Miami’s Cam Ward to be the top quarterback taken in the draft.

The Raiders, who fired Antonio Pierce after his first full season as their coach, need a quarterback after cycling between career backup Gardner Minshew and second-year signal caller Aidan O’Connell in 2024.

Deion Sanders was the 1994 Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time Super Bowl champion with the San Francisco 49ers (1994-95) and Dallas Cowboys (1995-96). The former No. 5 overall pick was also a six-time first-team All-Pro and two-time second-team All-Pro.
